SA Telephone Support Caller Volunteer - Adelaide

Availability: Mornings, Weekends
Time involved: 1 - 4 hours per week
- Wednesday, Friday and Sunday 7:30 am - 9 am approx shift. Calls are made from the Red Cross office in the Adelaide CBD however home-based calling may be possible for those with excellent ICT skills.
- Minimum commitment is one 3 hour shift per once a week or once a fortnight.
- Good communication skills required (a clear voice with well-developed comprehension and conversation skills)
Red Cross supports older people who live alone or who have few social connections, people with disability and people recovering from mental illness to help improve their wellbeing. We believe that having good social connections is essential for all aspects of health. The Telephone Support program provides daily telephone calls to check on the wellbeing of people who live alone and are at risk of an accident or illness that may go unnoticed.
The purpose of the Home Support Programs is to strengthen people’s capacity to participate in community life, maintain or regain independence and stay living in their own home for longer. We do this by providing Transport and Telephone Support services to aged people experiencing social isolation and/or are frail and require assistance with daily living.
For this role you will be able to listen and communicate effectively with clients in a caring and courteous way regarding their health, wellbeing and social connection. You will use a range of open-ended questions to ascertain client wellbeing. You will be non-judgmental and know how to recognise issues and concerns in order to provide clients with appropriate support and reassurance. You will be comfortable using computers. You will maintain accurate records of all calls using allocated electronic call sheets and follow organisational procedures.
Being able to speak a second language and having customer service experience will be a bonus but is not necessary.
As a Telephone Support Caller Volunteer you will help your clients to feel safe and connected to their community by listening and providing a friendly voice. We offer on the job training and support and ongoing training opportunities as required.
