The Australian Red Cross International Humanitarian Law (IHL) Program seeks to prevent and alleviate suffering in times of war and conflict and promote non-violence and peace by working towards the following outcomes:
- Australians in war and conflict understand that wars have laws and apply them;
- Australian law and policy reflects IHL and humanitarian principles;
- The International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement has maximum global impact in IHL, and Movement members achieve their local humanitarian objectives.
As a member of the International Red Cross Red Crescent Movement, Australian Red Cross has a mandate to disseminate IHL. It is supported in this endeavour by volunteers, including the IHL Newsletter Editor.
This role will suit someone who has a strong interest in IHL and is passionate about dissemination of IHL to the Australian public.
The IHL Newsletter Editor is primarily responsible for developing the fortnightly IHL electronic newsletter, Wars, Laws & Humanity. This involves monitoring websites and subscriptions, researching relevant stories, sourcing job opportunities, writing the segments and designing the e-news. As a volunteer within the IHL Program, you will also help with general administration as required and may also contribute to the development of broader IHL projects, events and other matters.
As the IHL Newsletter Editor you will be responsible for helping the Australian Red Cross to fulfil its important mandate to disseminate IHL. Red Cross will ensure you have ongoing support and access to other opportunities within the world’s largest humanitarian network.
