The program
Having good social connections is essential for all aspects of health, especially as we age. Red Cross supports older people who live alone or who have few social connections, people with disability and people recovering from mental illness to help improve their wellbeing.
Red Cross provides a door to door transport service for people who are elderly or have disability and have no means of transport to non-urgent medical appointments or social outings.
The opportunity
Our ideal volunteer is a mature person with a full drivers licence, and is perfect for the early retiree who needs to complete voluntary hours for Centrelink, or someone no longer in the workforce who can commit to a full day at least once a month (or more if available).
The volunteers needs to be well spoken and have a good command of English, with the ability and patience to converse with elderly and/or disabled clients.
Volunteer drivers work from a daily appointments schedule, keep records, maintain the vehicle and collect and receipt trip fees from clients.
The impact
As a Client Transport volunteer, you’ll help improve the quality of life and wellbeing of people who are elderly or have disability by connecting them with services in their local community.
