Red Cross Emergency Services program helps people to prepare for, respond to and recover from emergencies and disasters, primarily through the provision of psychosocial support. Emergency Services operate in a variety of settings including relief or evacuation centres, airports, recovery centres, door-knocking homes and businesses or telephoning people.
In addition to the above we have a ‘behind the scenes’ management group called the Incident Management Team (IMT), this team is activated during an emergency and operates off the field. The team is made up of planning officers (the thinkers), state operation officers (the doers) and logistics officers (the getters).
The Red Cross Planning Officer works with the Commander and Incident Management Team (IMT) to ensure that Red Cross response and recovery activities in an emergency operation are effectively planned based on the best available information and intelligence, considering a range of operational options based on strategic objectives, risk, wellbeing, and resources.
This role provides the opportunity to further develop logistical skills in a high intensity and well supported environment. Successful applicants will receive a variety of training (outlined in the position description), that can be used and is beneficial in many other professions and roles.
During an emergency the management team and field operators are vital to the operation of evacuation centres. The planning team is responsible for data sourcing and analysing, options, plans, record keeping, reporting and information distribution.
