Volunteer Wheelchair Access Driver/ Support Officer Riverland

The Program

The purpose of the Wheelchair Access Vehicle is to strengthen people’s capacity to participate in community life, maintain or regain independence. Volunteers are required to pick up and transport clients in accordance with the daily schedule. They will ensure a safe, courteous and respectful on-board client experience keeping in mind their health, well-being, cultural background, life experiences and social connection.


The Opportunity

For this role, you are required to have a current full Australian drivers license and an excellent driving record. You will have the ability to communicate effectively and characterized by empathy with a broad range of people including the elderly, disabled, disadvantaged, socially isolated and culturally diverse clients. You will also know how to use electronic devices including tablets and smartphones. Being able to speak a second language and having first aid training will be a bonus but is not necessary.

You will transport and support clients who are wheelchair bound to attend medical appointments, allied health consultations and social engagements, including help with grocery shopping eg. reaching objects on higher shelving. Retrieving their shopping bags and putting away in their home.


The Impact

As a volunteer driver, you will brighten the day of your clients by providing a positive and respectful experience while you interact and meet some fantastic people. We offer on the job training prior to commencing and ongoing training opportunities as required.
