The program

Our save-a-mate (SAM) Alcohol and Other Drug (AOD) Emergencies Program is an interactive and educational program that teaches young people how to respond to emergencies that result from alcohol and other drug use. Red Cross promotes the health and wellbeing of young people by bringing awareness to current and emerging health issues focusing on alcohol and other drug use and mental health.

The opportunity

Red Cross save-a-mate Support Trainers assist the Lead Trainer with the delivery of save-a-mate sessions to young people in various settings across Adelaide’s metropolitan and region areas. You will need to support the Community Justice team with administration and office support duties as well as tasks during the group sessions. You must be able to demonstrate skills in effective communication, an enjoyment of group sessions, effective time-management, teamwork, empathy and commitment. Experience in working with vulnerable, disadvantaged or culturally diverse individuals and knowledge of current social issues is desirable. The role will support the Lead Trainer to deliver the program in various settings, including custodial settings, on a casual basis.

As a save-a-mate Support Trainer volunteer, you will help to increase the ability of young people to look after themselves and to provide support to friends in need. Red Cross will ensure you have training, ongoing support and access to other opportunities within the World’s largest humanitarian network.
