The program

Red Cross support the friends and families who visit Port Phillip Prison before, during & after their visit time. The program is child focused and promotes strengthening family ties and improving the visit experience for prisoners and visitors. 

The opportunity

This role suits someone who has a strong interest in working with children and is passionate about helping vulnerable people. Prison Visitor Support volunteers will have strong communication skills and confidence in engaging with people from diverse backgrounds. In this role you will provide visitors with emotional reassurance and support, link them to specialist support services, provide activities for children and help to raise awareness about prison policies and procedures before and after they enter the prison. Inside the prison, volunteers will create a child friendly environment and will facilitate activities for the whole family to engage in, making the visit experience as positive as possible. 

The impact

This role will give you the opportunity to positively impact the prison visit experience for children and their families. You will be provided with extensive training, delivered by Red Cross and Port Phillip Prison staff. Red Cross will ensure you have ongoing support and access to other opportunities within the world's largest humanitarian network.
