Red Cross has been responding to emergencies and providing humanitarian assistance in Australia since 1914. We are committed to strengthening and extending our emergency aid services to assist all Australians prepare for, respond to and recover from emergencies.
During and after an emergency, volunteers provide Psychological First Aid to people affected by a disaster when they visit a Relief/Recovery Centre.
Volunteers in this role need to be over the age of 18 and desirable to be available at short notice.
They will provide Psychological First Aid to people visiting the Relief Centre. Volunteers will also be required to register visitors' details and work as part of a team. You must be sensitive to the needs of the people effected by the disaster and be flexible to any changes required during your shift.
Local deployments will be 1-4 shifts in a row. Non-local deployments including overnight accommodation will be 4 shifts over 4 days with 1 shift per day limit. There is a maximum of 4 consecutive operational days during any activation, with a break of 48 hours.
As an Emergency Services volunteer, you’ll help people to be better prepared, better connected to each other and more resilient when emergencies happen. Red Cross will ensure you have training, ongoing support and access to other opportunities within the world’s largest humanitarian network.
