Time involved: 1 - 4 hours per week
Location: Regional NSW

Key outcomes of the Humanitarian Settlement Program are increased social cohesion, community connectedness and positive settlement experiences for refugees. Volunteers play an important role in the success of the program, as their participation will mean refugees get the extra support they need in completing every day things such as shopping, reading important letters, English language and connecting with the community.
Home and Community Support Volunteers help refugees as they begin their lives in Australia by assisting with practical settlement needs. You will also help build the skills and confidence of refugees, so that they will be able participate in and enjoy Australian life. This includes providing physical help to set up a house, meeting with refugee families, and helping to orientate clients into their community. Your work will be supported by a Red Cross Case Worker and Volunteer Engagement Officer.
Red Cross volunteers are a vital connection between refugees and their new communities. As part of the Humanitarian Settlement Program you will contribute to creating a friendly and inclusive environment that will help newly arrived refugees feel welcome. Your impact will be tangible and you will see your contribution making a difference to someone’s life straight away. Red Cross will ensure you have training, ongoing support and access to other opportunities within the World’s largest humanitarian network.
